SAS baggage policy offers its passengers a 1 carry-on and 1 checked baggage allowance with all the fares and ticket type. The exception applies to the SAS Go Light fare where passengers have to purchase both checked as well as carry-on bags.

SAS Checked Baggage Policy

As per SAS baggage policy, the airline permits a number of bags for free and it depends on the type of fare purchased, travel route and EuroBonus membership level.

  • Weight limit – Maximum weight 32 kg for each bag. Fee applies for bags heavier than 23 kg.
  • Size – 158 cm (length + width + height).
  • Stroller baggage policy – 1 Stroller is allowed per passenger as checked luggage with a maximum weight of 23 kg. 
  • SAS Go Light fare – No free baggage is included with the ticket price.
  • SAS Go Smart fare – 1 checked bag (23 kg)
  • SAS Plus Smart fare – 1 checked bag (23 kg)
  • SAS Go Bonus fare –  1 checked bag (23 kg)
  • SAS Plus Pro fare – 2 checked bags for 23 kg each.
  • SAS Plus Bonus fare – 2 checked bags for 23 kg each.
  • SAS Business fare – 2 checked bags for 32 kg each.
  • SAS Business Bonus fare – 2 checked bags for 32 kg each.
  • Infants age 0 – 2 years – One piece of checked baggage, max 23 kg, max size 158 cm except SAS Go Light ticket. 1 stroller and 1 car seat is also allowed for free (maximum weight 23 kg).
  • Children age 2 – 11 years – The baggage allowance is the same as an adult and depends on the ticket type as mentioned above. 

SAS Checked Baggage Allowance for membership levels

SAS baggage allowance would be offered with benefit to the EuroBonus Diamond-, Gold-, Silver members and Star Alliance Gold. These members can bring baggage which is included with the ticket as well as additional bags depending on the membership levels.

  • EuroBonus Silver – 1 additional checked bag. 
  • Star Alliance Gold – 1 additional checked bag. 
  • EuroBonus Gold – 2  additional checked bags. 
  • EuroBonus Diamond – 2  additional checked bags. 

Note – Members who booked SAS Go Light fare are not entitled to extra baggage.

SAS Carry On Baggage Policy

As per SAS baggage policy, the hand luggage is available for purchase for SAS Go Light fares. Below is the overview of the fee for the carry-on luggage – 

  • Size – Maximum size of 55 cm x 40 cm x 23 cm (length x width x depth)
  • Weight – 8 kg
  • Carry-on bag more than 8 days (for domestic travel) – 9 USD
  • Carry-on bag from 7 days up until 4 hours before departure (for domestic travel) – 9 USD
  • Carry-on bag within 4 hours prior to departure (for domestic travel) – 29 USD
  • Carry-on bag more than 8 days (for flights from Scandinavia, Finland, to/from Europe including Beirut) – 9 USD
  • Carry-on bag from 7 days up until 4 hours before departure  (for flights from Scandinavia, Finland, to/from Europe including Beirut) – 9 USD
  • Carry-on bag within 4 hours prior to departure  (for flights from Scandinavia, Finland, to/from Europe including Beirut) – 29 USD
  • Allowance for domestic travel – – 1 carry bag for domestic travel. This is applicable for the ticket type SAS Go Smart, SAS GoPro, SAS Plus Smart and SAS Plus Pro, SAS Go Bonus and SAS Plus Bonus. 
  • Allowance for flights to / from Asia, Canada and US – 1 carry-on SAS Go Light, SAS Go Smart and SAS GoPro, and SAS Go Bonus. 2 carry-on bags for ticket type SAS Plus Smart, SAS Plus Pro, SAS Business Smart, SAS Business Pro, SAS Plus Bonus and SAS Business Bonus. 
  • Size of the personal item – Maximum size 40 cm x 30 cm x 15 cm (length x width x depth).
  • Infant age 0 – 2 years – Not included in the ticket 
  • Children age 2 – 11 years – Included in the ticket price, and could 1 or 2 carry-on bags depending on the ticket type. 

Know About SAS Baggage Fees

As per SAS baggage policy, each passenger can carry a maximum of 9 bags, and is available for purchase online. The baggage fee will be applied each way and varies with the travel type and time of purchase. 

  • Up to 22 hours before departure (domestic and within Scandinavia) – 25 USD
  • Within 22 hours before departure (domestic travel) – 65 USD 
  • Within 22 hours before departure (within Scandinavia) – 85 USD
  • Flight more than 8 days before departure (Scandinavia, Finland, to/from Europe) – 40 USD
  • Flight between 7 days and 22 hours before departure (Scandinavia, Finland, to/from Europe) – 44 USD
  • Less than 22 hours before departure – 85 USD
  • Flight more than 14 days before departure (Southern Europe) – 40 USD
  • Flight between 13 days and 22 hours before departure (Southern Europe) – 44 USD
  • Less than 22 hours before departure (Southern Europe) – 85 USD

  • Less than 22 hours before departure (Salzburg, and Turin) – 85 USD
  • Less than 22 hours before departure (Beirut) – 135 USD
  • Flight more than 14 days before departure (Athens, Biarritz, Bologna, Larnaca, Las Palmas, Malaga, Nice, Naples, Pisa, and Venice) – 44 USD

SAS Checked Baggage fee for flights to/from Asia, Canada, and US

Below is the overview of the SAS baggage fee for flights to/from Asia, Canada, and US – 

  • Flights more than 22 hours before departure (Ticket type SAS Business, SAS Plus & SAS Go) – 95 USD
  • Flights more than 22 hours before departure (Ticket type SAS Business, SAS Plus & SAS Go) – 135 USD

SAS Overweight Baggage Fees

Passengers whose checked bags exceed 23–32 kg in weight or measures beyond the permissible size of 158 cm (length + width + height) are entitled to SAS extra baggage fee. 

  • Between 23.1 – 28 kg  (domestic travel) – 40 USD
  • Between 28.1 kg – 33 kg (international travel) – 70 USD
  • Between 23.1 – 28 kg (Europe and within Scandinavia) – 50 USD

SAS  Sports Equipment Policy

As per SAS baggage policy, passengers are allowed to carry sports items as checked baggage. Following weapons must be declared and approved in advance, and are subject to a fee  –

  • Carriage of weapons
  • Firearms

Ddomestic travel fee – 50 USD

SAS baggage fee for flights to/from Scandinavia / Europe – 80 USD

Baggage fee for flights to/from Asia, Canada, and US – 125 USD

Weight of the sports item as checked luggage – Maximum 23 kg

Sports equipment that weight above 23 kg – Excess baggage fee may apply. 

Weight of the sports item as carry-on luggage – Maximum 8 kg

Note – Passengers traveling with the following sports items must note – 

  • Golf Bags – 1 golf bag which includes one set of golf clubs, golf balls, tees and one pair of golf shoes is allowed.
  • Ski and snowboards – These 2 pisces are considered as 1 piece of checked bag and the combined weight must not exceed 23 kg. 
  • Bicycles – Allowed as checked baggage. 
  • Diving equipment – 1 piece of checked baggage which include 1 scuba tank/bottle (empty), 1 scuba regulator and octopus set, 1 tank harness, 1 mask, 2 fins, 1 snorkel, and 1 flashlight (batteries must be removed).
  • Fishing Gear – 1 fishing rod is allowed as checked luggage.
  • Hockey gear – It is considered as 1 piece of checked luggage. 

SAS Musical Instrument Policy

As per SAS baggage policy, the airline allows small and large musicals instruments provided they must adhere to the following guidelines – 

  • Size of musical instruments as checked luggage – Must not exceed the dimension of 158 cm
  • Size of musical instruments as carry-on luggage – Maximum size of 55 cm x 40 cm x 23 cm (length x width x depth).
  • Weight of musical instruments as checked luggage – Maximum weight must be within 32 kg. 
  • Weight of musical instruments as carry-on luggage – Maximum weight must be within 8 kg. 
  • Size for the larger musical instruments – Must not exceed 50 x 50 x 35 cm. 
  • Weight for the larger musical instruments – The weight must not exceed 75 kg. 

Note – For larger musical instruments, passengers need to book an additional seat. The price depends on the ticket type and the fare class.
